CONCERNS over the 'less than satisfactory experience' received by a person who needed urgent medical assistance from Devon Doctors, were raised with one of the team's managers at a meeting in Holsworthy, last week.

Sarah White, governance manager of Devon Doctors, which provides an urgent medical service outside normal surgery hours, met members of Holsworthy Medical Practice's Patient Group last Wednesday.

She told the meeting, which was chaired by Dave Thomas, that Devon Doctors was a not-for-profit social enterprise owned by GP practices. It provided additional services such as Devon Dental, Care Alert, speech and language and audiology and kept an end-of-life and child protection registers.

Patients with an urgent medical need that could not wait until their GP surgery reopened could now access Devon Doctors by phoning the NHS number 111 and not 999, which should only be called for life-threatening conditions. Devon Doctors, she said, was one of the top three out-of-hours providers in the country.
