AS THE date for Holsworthy Carnival draws nearer, preparations are well underway for the choosing of this year's carnival and fairy queen, but 'what about a carnival prince?' one lady has asked.
Traditionally, Holsworthy has not had a regular carnival prince as part of its annual ceremony, but Emma George of Holsworthy, feels that it is only fair for one to be incorporated into the royal ensemble.
Emma explained that she had asked whether she could put her eight-year-old son, Christopher George, forward to apply for carnival prince.
Commenting, she said: "I was told that as a male he could not apply in his own right but could be an attendant if the chosen Fairy Queen should wish to choose him. I queried this and was told that many years ago males were allowed to apply but as it was unsuccessful they had stopped it."
