CORNWALL Council has ‘approved with conditions’ an application to construct two new units at Binhamy Retail Park, Bude, with word spreading that a new Dominos takeaway outlet could be taking residence there, following social media and press coverage.
The proposal, which claims it is looking to subdivide the ‘existing retail Unit A to create two retail units with new shop front, together with a change of use for the smaller of the new units from A1 to A5’ (shop use to takeaway use), has received objections from both Bude-Stratton Town Council and a member of the public.
Bude-Stratton Town Council submitted their comments to the application on the Cornwall Council planning website, saying: “…The town council object on the grounds of noise and disturbance to the local residents, and the reduction of the size of the units and the possible damage to the vitality of the town centre; and any business activity must concur with the original planning conditions.”
However, Cornwall Council’s planning committee made a decision on October 2 to approve the application with conditions. Last year it was announced that Dominos would also be setting up shop in Launceston, but the town is still awaiting the arrival of the takeaway pizza restaurant.
There has been no confirmation or official indication of which businesses may take up the units available at the retail park on Cornwall Council’s planning website yet.
Having approached Dominos for a comment, a spokesperson said: “Unfortunately we won’t be commenting on Bude or Launceston at this moment in time.”
