IT WAS agreed by Bude-Stratton Town Council to ask the district valuer to value the land at the site of former bus company, Hookways at its recent meeting on Thursday, November 3 — land that could be used to provide a multi-storey car park.

Hookways closed down back in 2011 and the land has not been bought since.

The site is situated on Lansdown Road, opposite the Co-op and not far from Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club, and the council is contemplating buying the land to turn into a multi-storey car park for the town.

Town clerk, Donna James, updated the councillors after speaking to the district valuers who have said that a lot of work will need to be done, and a report is to be prepared for this Friday (November 25).

The town council must get the district valuer’s consent before it is allowed to buy.

Cllr Paul Tilzey was adamant that the town council should buy the site, saying: “We want to buy the site, Bude needs a multi-storey car park, especially when the town is busy.”

Cllr Lea Deely reminded the assembled crowd that it would have to pay £1-million for it, before Cllr Bob Willingham said: “Before we do anything else we need work out square footage plus the value.”

Cllr Tilzey then proposed that the district valuer should value the land.

This was unanimously agreed by all of the councillors.
