THE eleventh annual Community Action Through Sport (CATS) awards evening was hosted at the Parkhouse Centre in Bude last Thursday — and it saw a wonderful turnout with 122 young people being recognised and rewarded for their positive community action.
Their achievement equated to an outstanding 3,869 volunteer hours between them.The audience were treated to performances from the Transition Dance Group and singers Sarah Sutcliffe and Jasmine Wallis.
Hosts Denise May and Martin Reay welcomed the guest presenters for the evening, which focussed on local community organisations, highlighting the value and impact volunteers make to the Bude community.
The first guest, was Paul Tilzey, from Bude Sea Pool, the chosen community group for donations made on the evening and the recipients of £110. Paul presented the School category, which included a wide variety of nominations, including level 1 and 2 winners, Isaac Guthrie; Katie Mead; Lauren Harkness; Lyle Coles ; Rosa Coleman; Tom Horn; Eleanor Theakston; Keren Davies; Libby Coleman; Lowenna Hooper; Molly Hanham; Molly Turner; Natasha Eckton; Emily Medland; Emily Mettam, for their support with the international children's literature competition, acting as assistants and library ambassadors, with Emily Whelan; Elizabeth Hobbs taking lead roles.
