TWO appeals against the refusal of outline planning

go-ahead on land next to Victoria Gardens, Camelford, have been allowed by a Government inspector.

Mr Paul Stephens had appealed against the former North Cornwall Council's decision to refuse permission for 13 open market and 14 low cost for sale properties in one scheme, and against refusal of affordable housing (nine homes for RSL rent and 18 low cost purchase) in the second scheme.

The inspector, Gyllian D Grindey, allowed both appeals and granted planning go-ahead with conditions.

In her decision document, she said she bore in mind that NCDC had approved the building of 27 affordable dwellings on this site in 2007, subject to completion of an S106 order but this was never signed.

"This means that, in principle, there can be no objection to the erection of affordable housing here, of itself.

"The suggested lay-out for the two appeal schemes

follows the previously agreed lay-out. This is an important factor. The site of the appeals lies adjacent to, but outside, the settlement boundary and was considered to be a rural

exceptions site."
