AN inquest has been opened into the death of Cornish Bard and 'Post' correspondent Miss Joan Rendell.

Local people have been puzzled and saddened by the long delay between her death in a blaze at her bungalow home in Werrington in May last year, and any further progress in determining the cause of the fire. A funeral service has yet to take place.

Police faced major problems in formally identifying the body as that of Miss Rendell, aged 89.

The inquest has now been opened and adjourned to a date later in the year by Emma Carlyon, the Cornwall coroner.
