THE people behind the Delabole Skate Park Project have released the initial designs for the new skate park in the village.

The Delabole Skate Park Project was set up earlier this year as an area for young people to go to stay fit and keep themselves occupied.

Over the spring and summer months, a number of events, including an afternoon tea and a summer fete were held.

The organisers also got in contact with different designers but eventually plumped for Maverick Industries as their chosen developers after a consultation with local residents over what they want.

The designs were posted on the group’s Facebook page (Delabole Skate Park Project) and treasurer, Jo Harris, says that they’re delighted with what Maverick Industries have come up with and hopes that the planning application can be sent off within the coming weeks.

Jo said: “We put some ideas up at the fete in the summer and we got some good feedback. Admittedly, I don’t know a great deal of what they want so that’s why it’s important they tell us. Maverick Industries have now come up with more detailed plans and we want people to tell us what they think.

“They’ve just completed a big project in Newquay and have done several projects in the South West. That gave us confidence to use them as a supplier and they’re very experienced with the fundraising side of things, which is essential for us.

“The designs can be changed at any time before we send off the planning application for the site, which we’re currently working on at the moment. We hope to send it off in the next few weeks and it normally takes about 12 weeks for the decision to be made, so we should find out early next year.”

Jo gave an update on the fundraising towards the project and said there are a number of avenues they’re looking at in the coming weeks to pay for it.

“We’re looking externally to help pay for it. It costs over £150,000 and we’ve got a few things lined up. We’ve only got small amounts at the moment to pay for bills but we should know more early next year.”
