Pride of place at Holsworthy Golf Club must go to the ladies if only for their industry with numerous events on the calendar.

Julie Ellis is showing good form, her 34 point total giving her top place in the April Stableford with Veronica Oke second 33pts and Barbara Abrams third, 31pts.

Barbara followed that with being in the top team of the day in the final round of the Winter Eclectic competition devised by Reg Daniel a 3BBB with best and worst score to count on each hole. Barbara's team-mates were Trevor Watters and Geoff Young, captain and vice-captain respectively, their 64pts seeing off Gwen Adams, Bill Thomson and Reg with Alan Abrams, George Booth and Pauline Bezzant third.

Geoff Young's consistent play earned him first place with 36pts followed by Reg Daniel, 32 and Alan Abrams, 31. Likewise, over the series of events, Pauline Bezzant, too, has played steadily to head the ladies' league table with 34pts with Gwen Adams second, 30pts and 18pt totals by both Ruth Bennett and Hilary Dorren.

Eileen Pearce's efforts to encourage the more senior ladies to take part in Veterans' competitions and matches are steadily gaining ground with two away matches to report.

Although losing out to Tavistock, the team acquitted itself well going down by 3½ and 1½ with excellent conditions ensuring that a good time was had by all. The team was Eileen Pearce and Carol Wells, Yvonne Bowler and Veronica Oke, Ruth Bennett and Freda Olde, Lesley Richardson and Jan Bostock and Glenys Mead and Caroline Pirie; Caroline recording the only two on the day.

With a few changes Eileen's ladies crossed the Tamar to oppose Bude lady veterans but despite some excellent performances they managed to lose gracefully, going down by 3½ to ½ before enjoying an excellent meal with their hosts. The pairings were Eileen Pearce and Yvonne Bowler, Ruth Bennett and Jean Dimbleby, Lesley Richardson and Gwen Adams (who got the half) and Freda Olde and Anne French.

Veterans' captain, Tony Tomassi's selected team to take on Teign Valley in the Emerton Court county competition came up trumps with a 3½ to 1½ win to take a useful lead for the away leg. Alan Abrams and Ray Holness halved. Wins were by Brian Hayes and Reg Daniel, 2&1, Brian Axford and George Booth, 5&4, Colin Walmsley and Syd Pearce, 3&2, with Ken McGeorge and Ian Hemmings going down by 3&2.

The roll up competitions are gathering momentum with a big field turning out to contest the Old Timers' Cup, this despite adverse weather conditions with Mike Richmond's nett 65 being top of Division I and best of the day, too, with Tim Clark second, nett 68, and Alan Abrams, 70, third. As for Division II, Pauline Bezzant showed the chaps how it is done, coming in with 70, ahead of Tony Tomassi, 71, and Graham Makin, 72.

It was then back to a team competition, a three ball Texas Scramble, each player to have a minimum of four drives. The rain held off and scoring was very good, the lowest being 62 by the trio of Alan Richardson, Ben Tole and Dennis Hicks with, in second place, Reg Daniel, James Rowland and Mark Tryhorne, 63, and only just pipped for third, were David Smith, Pauline Bezzant and Alan Abrams 63.2.
