TOWN councillors in Launceston have agreed a 7.47% — £32,541 — increase in the precept.
This means a rise in council tax to £168.87 per annum for a band D property, or 46p a day.
Cllr Paul O’Brien at last week’s meeting of Launceston Town Council pointed out this increase to the precept was ‘of a lesser amount’ — the previous precept increase was 9.69%.
The budget for 2017/18 was also agreed at last week’s town council meeting.
On the budget, Cllr O’Brien said: “We start off from the disappointing position where the support grant from Cornwall Council has been reduced this year by £5,000 — £5,000 less to play with than last year.”
He added of the budget: “I would suggest it makes a very good attempt to minimise expenditure whilst maintaining the same quality of service we have been providing and I think everyone would wish us to continue to provide.
