TWENTY Junior Lifeguards from Aqua Stars Academy of Swimming at Brandis Corner, took part in a Rookie Lifeguard Festival in March.

The event was held in Okehampton and the children managed to achieve great success, while enjoying their fun day out.

The A team gained a first place win and the B team came in third in the Year 5 and 6 category.

The younger team, representing the club in the Year 3 and 4 category, came in a creditable third place overall, giving strong hopes for future events.

All five teams took part in the event with immense enthusiasm and achieved high rankings by also coming away with two silver medals and a bronze in individual races.

Andy Squirrell helped coach the young lifesavers, he said: “A superb effort by all that went, we couldn’t have asked for anymore effort or commitment.

“These events are about team-work, enjoyment, achieving and having fun. Everyone did just that. Mind you, bringing home a clutch of medals in our first ever competition was just great!”

Aqua Stars Academy of Swimming is planning to enter other competitions in the near future and is keen for new members to join.
