THIS year's Winter Festival at Bude & North Cornwall Golf Club saw a 4 BBB format on the Saturday followed by a 3 team two scores to count format on the Sunday, writes Barry Sykes.

With a complete change in the weather from the weekend before players went out in very mild and wind free conditions. Saturday saw 58 pairs playing 4 BBB off ¾ handicap and so good was the scoring that pairs on 41 points saw themselves out of the prizes.

The youth of Bude took over the top two places followed by a very respectable challenge from the fairer sex in third place. Fourth and fifth placing went to members from Okehampton followed in sixth place by two Bude older members. Two of the leading pairs' handicaps were sliced with Ryan Willshire losing three shots and Adam Curtis two shots. There were 11 twos returned on the day.

Sunday saw a team of three event with two scores counting on each hole, scoring off full handicap.

With brilliant spring weather scoring was going to be good and teams scoring 80 points were not in the running so good were the conditions. Three players carried on their winning ways with Ryan Willshire seeing another two shots skimmed off his handicap. Jean Pearce kept up her solid golf after a month away on a golfing holiday to help carry her two partners into third spot with 84 points.

At the presentation Club Captain, Steve Bartrop, thanked all those for supporting the weekend, especially in this economic climate.
