NEW trim trail equipment will allow people to improve their fitness for free at a park in Holsworthy.

The exercise equipment was officially opened at Stanhope Park last Sunday morning (May 31).

Members of the town council parks committee, including former councillors Ken Watson and Zowie Brooks obtained funds for the equipment from the Big Lottery Fund's Awards for All, which donated £10,000 and the town council also pledged £4,000.

Cllr Lyndon Piper said as part of the town council's programme to make the park a centre of healthy activity, the new apparatus can be used by adults of all physical abilities. He paid tribute to former councillor, Zowie Brooks who initiated the project and secured the Big Lottery grant.

There are two stations each with apparatus for four people with full instructions and suggested exercises. A seated leg press provides workout for thighs and hips and a seated chest press develops power and strength in the arms, chest and shoulders. There are also two pull down challengers, which provide workout for the arms, shoulders and back. Two air walkers provide cardiovascular exercise while developing the leg muscles and opposite is a double upright rower.
