A ‘YOUTHPRENEUR’ market was held at the White Hart Hotel, Launceston, recently.

Although the turnout was less than expected, the children who did turn up pitched ideas and sold items as well as received free advice from an accountant from Haines-Watts and The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Hub.

Organiser, Jess Chu, who runs the Mums and Business Market and helped take professional pictures of the entrants on the day, said: “Although we were hoping for more people to attend, we still had a really good day. We had seven-year-old Yasmin and six-year-old Lily who raised £30 and £20 respectively through gift cards and crafts, which was lovely, and we also had three 17-year-olds who have set up a website called Jobs for Juniors, managed to get some people to sign up. Jobs for Juniors will hopefully be somewhere where young people can go and find some part-time work.

“It was great that the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Hub came to talk to them about business development and lots of other things while the accountant was also very helpful. I’d like to thank them for coming along, all of the local businesses who sponsored the event and everyone else who helped on the day.

“Looking forward, I’m hoping to run something similar before Christmas. I’m going to hopefully go into the local schools and get people involved so we can do it in a Dragons Den type setting, where interested parties under the age of 21 can send in a 90-second pitch video to the judges.”
