SUNDAY, May 31 brought ideal weather conditions for those new to watersports to 'have a go' at the Upper Tamar Lake open day.

Local visitors and holidaymakers came from far and wide to enjoy full use of the range of discount watersports taster sessions on offer, as well as to listen to the live music from a brass band and enjoy watching the model yacht club and sailing club racing.

They were also able to relax on sailing boat trips around the lake, all to the accompaniment of the mellow tones of Bude Metric Brass.

Area Manager Angie Martelli said: "The hot and sunny day with just a light breeze was ideal for those wanting to experience excitement on the water in a safe environment with expert tuition. The most popular activities were kayaking, canoeing and surf skiing, with many opting to families hiring pedaloes to enjoy this lovely lake with its spectacular views.

"We were delighted to be joined by two families from France, who thoroughly enjoyed their kayaking and windsurfing instruction, although we'll be brushing up on our French for future years!"

She added: "A great time was had by all and it was good to be able to show those visitors considering taking up a watersports activity, just what we have on offer here at Upper Tamar Lake. We hope many of them will be returning on regular basis."
