AROUND 200 people attended the civic service at St Mary Magdalene Church, Launceston, with the theme of celebrating the town on Sunday, April 21.

The civic service is usually held at the beginning of the Mayor's term of office. However, due to a visit from the Bishop of Truro and the royal jubilee celebrations, the service was unable to go ahead. Therefore, Mayor Cllr Rob Tremain felt it would be a good way to end the term of office.

Some 25 organisations were represented at the service, and the mayoral procession that led from the Guildhall to the church included Deputy Lieutenant of Cornwall and his wife, Mr and Mrs Peter Hodgson; the Mayors and Mayoresses of Truro, Bodmin, Liskeard, Looe, Wadebridge, Callington, and Okehampton; and Cornwall Councillors and Arthur Wills, an Honoured Burgess of Launceston.
