HUNDREDS of women, some in fancy dress costume, donned their walking shoes for the Tamar Lakes Nightwalk at the weekend.

Organisers have paid tribute to all those who made Saturday's sponsored walk so memorable.

North Devon Hospice has staged the ladies-only moonlit walk every year since 2007, expanding the event to add routes, including one at Tamar Lakes near Kilkhampton and Saunton Sands.

Jenny Richardson, from the hospice's fundraising team, said this weekend's event has set the bar very high.

"Each year we try to grow Nightwalk and this year the emphasis was on providing as much entertainment as possible to try to add to the amazing atmosphere. We had the Energia samba band and the Beach Hut Photo Booth at Tamar Lakes and they seemed to go down particularly well as we've had some great feedback about them. But, as ever, the stars of the show were the Nightwalkers themselves. They turned out in their hundreds, walking together in support of the hospice.

"More than 1,300 ladies signed up in total, with over 250 walking at Tamar Lakes, and they all seemed to have an amazing night. The proceeds raised from this walk will go directly to the hospice's Long House Appeal, helping us provide more care and support to local people in Holsworthy and the surrounding area."

The hospice has extended its thanks to everyone who made the Nightwalk a success.
