A LAUNCESTON lady has produced a new film, telling the story of a Bodmin Moor-based ‘horse whisperer’, which is due to be highly acclaimed.

The Horse Whisperer of Bodmin Moor is the story of Dan Wilson, a unique horse trainer based out of Bodmin Moor.

Commonly referred to as a ‘horse whisperer’, Dan trains and helps all sorts of horses where other trainers have tried and failed.

Shot against the epic backdrop of Bodmin Moor, the film also features Dan’s mentor, the legendary horse whisperer, Monty Roberts. Monty, who is the Queen’s personal horse trainer, is the author of the best seller, The Man Who Listens to Horses.

The Horse Whisperer of Bodmin Moor is a follow up film to Cornish Cowboy, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year to much acclaim.

The producer of the film is Helen Nash, the cellist with female string quartet, Escala, who hails from Launceston. Award winning TV director, Gareth Molan, said Helen brought the work of Dan Wilson to his attention.

Gareth said: “Helen’s an avid horse rider and she introduced me to Dan. We decided to make a film about the interesting work he’s doing in Cornwall.

“Horse whispering isn’t just an America phenomenon. Many people are unaware that this practice is carried out in the country. In making the film, I wanted to get that point across.

“It’s always fun visiting Cornwall and it was great to have the chance to shoot the film there, against the backdrop of Bodmin Moor, which, in a way, has a similar look on film to the American west.”
