A FORMER Archbishop of Canterbury has accepted an invitation to be a Prebend, an honourary canon, at St Endellion.

Following his nomination in 2012 of St Endellion as his favourite church in the UK, Rowan Williams, Baron Williams of Oystermouth and the last Archbishop of Canterbury, has accepted the Bishop of Truro's invitation to become a Prebend of St Endellion.

Lord Williams said: "That sounds a treat! I'd be most honoured to be a Prebend, and I'd be delighted to pay a visit some time for an event."

Back in July 2012, Lord Williams wrote of St Endellion, which he has enjoyed visiting since he was an undergraduate: "The mixture of rock and space always gives me the feeling of sea-light, of something wide, ungraspable; very much a North Cornwall feeling, opening out on to a deep and broad horizon. An appropriate sensation for a church, I think."
