BUDE had a tough first half against a powerful Torrington team but at half time deserved their 1-0 lead, writes Gary Hodgson.

Bude came close a few times during the half with Ian Marks and Stevie Thompson both hitting the crossbar. Bude went one up after 30 minutes, a James Bromell chip over the defence from the right hand side perfectly picked out Thompson's run who slotted in past the 'keeper.

Torrington weren't without their chances and their best chance fell to Mark Bettis whose header from eight yards was superbly saved by 'keeper Phil Constable.

Bude increased their lead a minute into the second half. Some neat work on the right from Jason Stewart saw the rolled across the edge of the box and Marks curled a left foot strike into the bottom left corner.

Torrington's heads dropped as Bude dominated for 15 minutes and increased their lead further, Thompson grabbing his second, rounding the 'keeper and neatly tucking the ball away.

Torrington though battled back into the game and Bettis reduced the score difference. They were unfortunate not to reduce it further as they hit the post and had another goal ruled out for offside.

Bude got through this period of pressure though and the game was over after 80 minutes when John Clayton penetrated the home defence to score Bude's fourth.
