Plans have been revealed to demolish the former Holsworthy Police Station and replace it with two semi-detached houses.

Holsworthy Town Council's Planning Committee recommended to approve the application at its latest meeting on Monday (October 31). Cllr Charlene Le-Roy proposed that the application be approved, but the concern over adequate parking and access for the existing police and fire station, be pointed out to Torridge District Council (TDC).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has expressed 'serious concerns' regarding the proposal, especially during an emergency response when problems exiting the station could arise. It is felt that this could occur during the construction phase and when the houses are completed, due to cars parking on a relatively narrow road. They have suggested that a parking condition be put in place and a cross hatched box outside of the station.

Permission had been granted by TDC in 2008, a year after Holsworthy Police moved to its current station. The final decision is expected to be made by Torridge.
