THERE is likely to be a "considerable increase" in Holsworthy's precept over the next three years as the town council face service charges and the costs of maintaining Stanhope Park. Torridge District Council has written to the town clerk Mrs Clare Dalley explaining that after carrying out "a review of all the organisations in the community which occupy council property" they intend to levy service charges for the town council office back to the town council as of April 1, 2008. The service charges include the cost of utilities, telephones, cleaning, repairs, maintenance, rates, security, heating etc. In a letter from Mr Daniel Bates, Head of Financial Services at Torridge District Council, it stated that "the estimated service recharge should be budgeted at £1,374.52 for 2008/09 by the town council."
