VOLUNTEERS from a care home near Holsworthy have helped habitat management continue at Tamar Lakes, Bude.
Since December 2011 care workers from Arliemoor Care Home in Holsworthy, have been bringing a group of residents to Tamar Lakes to assist with conservation work on site.
The volunteers have been involved in a number of habitat management tasks at Tamar Lakes such as coppicing willow, clearing footpaths and water-courses and improving wetland habitat surrounding the popular bird hide at Lower Tamar Lake.
With the assistance from the six or seven volunteers that come from Arliemoor, a number of priority conservation tasks have been completed this winter. The volunteers are always smiling and have a good day out on Tuesdays come rain, sunshine, or freezing conditions.
Their hard work and determination has helped the conservation team at Tamar to continue the habitat management which was initiated through the Biodiversity Project which ran from 2008 until 2011. The improvements made to the wetland habitat surrounding the bird hide has also proved successful and is now extremely popular with wading birds.
