Holsworthy Vintage Club presented a cheque for £1,225 to Devon Air Ambulance at the Crown and Sceptre recently. Holsworthy Vintage Club held their annual new year's tractor run. They have three or four 'runs' a year for charity. This one was in aid of Devon Air Ambulance. The run was mainly organised by member John Trible from Bradford and John and Pauline Ellis from Newton St Petrock. They met just past Woodford Bridge at East Bridge Farm, the home of John's son Andrew, his wife Sue and family.
Andrew offered to hold the run from his home as the air ambulance was called out to his farm in the summer when he was involved in an accident. Leaving the farm at 10.30am the 41 assorted classic tractors made their way through narrow winding lanes through Thornbury, Cookbury, onto Bradford, Priestacott, Dipper Mill, down through Shebbear and then homewards to East Bridge Farm arriving back at 1.30pm. A large shed had been set out with table and chairs and a well stocked raffle table. Several prizes were given by local traders. Sue, with her helpers (thanks to Eileen Brown, Rose Wooldridge, Mary Smart and Angela Horn) organised a lunch for nearly 100 people. The ladies served an excellent hot meal with a sweet followed by tea or coffee.
All the food for the lunch was donated by the family, some given by Waitrose and Mole Valley Farmers. This was very gratefully received and meant a bigger donation to The Devon Air Ambulance.
