HOLSWORTHY Town Council has agreed to increase its council tax precept by almost 50 per cent for this year and 2013.
The council, which has bumped up its precept from last year's £44,553 to £88,087, has blamed the increase on the former council's decision to allocate funding which fell out of Section 106 areas.
In a report, Town Clerk, Diane Rufus said: "It is regrettable that this has happened, giving this council no option but to make this increase, however, it will ensure that this does not happen again."
