DURING December, both Holsworthy and Launceston Traffic Departments will be looking towards the more seasonal problem of drink driving, with increased patrols, especially in more rural isolated areas and stop checks of anyone suspected of drink driving.

Sergeant Pennie Channing said: "We would like a message to all those who think they will not be caught — anyone suspected of drink driving or involved in a road traffic collision, will be breath tested, regardless of the time of day or night. What a lot of people do not know is that many are over the limit the morning after a big night out — so think before you drive — am I over the limit or am I still over the limit?

"The penalties for causing death while over the drink drive limit are serious and will result in imprisonment, is anyone's life, or yours, worth the risk?"

PC Wilson of Holsworthy is asking motorists to check the lights on their vehicles, now that the days are getting shorter and many people now driving to and from work or school in the dark. A number of 'one-eyed' monsters have recently been seen in the area, so drivers are asked to make sure their lights are all working rather than incurring a fine.
