With rain forecast at the beginning of the week it was with some relief that the Ten Tors weekend stayed dry and generally warm. This provided perfect conditions for the teams and a very successful event with only an unfortunate few who failed to complete the challenge.

The Holsworthy Moorland Training Group once again had two teams in the challenge, one for each distance of 35 and 45 miles.

Starting at 7am on Saturday morning from Okehampton camp both teams made good progress on their first day and were ahead of their planned times for the overnight stop. The ideal camping weather kept their spirits up and the 35 mile team of Becky House, Sam and Ben Hendy, Tom Hassett, Ben Neville-Jones and William Garnett were able to get a good night's rest.

'SAFE'

The 45 mile team of Henry Mann, Josh Smale, Martin Horman, Sofia Down, Ross James and Gemma Isaac were able to continue walking and camp late and this meant the Sunday walk in to Okehampton would be a short one with only 14 miles remaining.

The excellent weather continued on the Sunday and soon the teams were nearing the finish at Okehampton, the 45 mile team completing the distance at 11.48am. Their feet were sore and their legs tired but the whole team were home safe and sound.

A little later at 1.00pm, the complete 35 mile team also made it home, weary but very happy to have made the grade. With proud parents and supporters waiting at the finish point to cheer them in, the teams received their medals and then compared their blisters.

Congratulations to all the team members on a brilliant event and hope the blisters soon subside.
