Thanks were expressed, yet again, to the generosity of the people of Holsworthy, the Rotary Club has been able to send the amazing sum of £1,500 to help relief efforts in Ukraine.

The club took up an initiative started by local resident Liz Ledster, who, hearing the news from Ukraine, took it on herself to rent the Memorial Hall for a coffee morning. When members of Rotary heard about this, they immediately agreed to help, and set about organising the coffee morning help last week.

Rotary also held a bucket collection at the Livestock Market on March 16.

Club vice-president Geoff Cusick said: “I am always amazed at the generosity of our community.  The Club is proud and delighted to make this contribution to helping the people of Ukraine, who are in such dire need at the moment.”

Taken together, the Livestock Market collection and the coffee morning raised nearly £1,000. A donation from the Rotary Club’s Trust Fund made this up to a total of £1,500, which will be sent via Rotary International’s Disaster Relief Fund to help the people of Ukraine.

Liz said: “Sincere thanks to Rotary, and all the people and businesses in Holsworthy who donated so generously and obviously enjoyed the event.”

Thanks were also expressed to the Memorial Hall committee, who generously refunded the hall rental.
