THOUSANDS of people in North Cornwall, Torridge and West Devon paid tribute at combined Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day services to those who have given their lives for their country in all conflicts. Red poppies — both the symbol of sacrifice and a sign that we must care for those affected by war and the families of those who gave their lives — abounded, as the 'Last Post' reverberated through towns, villages and hamlets.

Last Sunday afternoon Holsworthy remembered the young men of the town, who did not return from battle, 36 in World War 1 and 27 in World War 11. Some 265 people, a large proportion of whom were young people, took part in the Remembrance Day Parade, one of the largest numbers ever.
