THE Holsworthy branch of the British Red Cross has been congratulated on its record fundraising, writes Christine Williams.

For the sixth time since 2006, the Holsworthy branch has collected more money than any other branch in Devon.

This year, during its flag week in May, the sum of £2,009.54 was collected in the town and surrounding villages.

Consequently, Dot Matthews, patron of the Devon Red Cross, went to Sanders Lane Youth Centre last Friday afternoon, to offer her congratulations and present the Chairman’s Cup to Margaret Martin, local group organiser, and Sylvia Gare, Red Cross Flag Week organiser.

She was accompanied by Robert Tribble, branch chairman of Devon Volunteer Council, Mark Howells, senior people and learning manager, and Gill Mercer, senior community fundraiser.

Sylvia was also presented with a citation of thanks for being a Red Cross volunteer for 17 years and organising the flag week over ten years.

A number of branch members and volunteer collectors also received certificates of appreciation.
