THERE has been approximately £1,000 of damage caused to a hard wood bench and several outdoor electrical sockets in Badock Gardens in Holsworthy.

The damage is believed to have been done between Tuesday, May 2, and Wednesday, May 3.

It is a peaceful public area in the town with well-kept flowerbeds that is enjoyed by local families and those wanting to enjoy the tranquility of the place.

The bench that has been damaged is relatively new and the broken electrical sockets could now pose a risk to public safety.

PC Kevin Bennett said: “If anyone knows who is responsible they can speak to me at Holsworthy Police Station in confidence.

“To those people that think it’s fun to damage and destroy community facilities I must remind you that you run the risk of arrest, prosecution and a criminal record that could affect you for the rest of your life.

“Whilst the council spends money on repairing the damage done by thoughtless, selfish people it is worth bearing in mind that the funds used are diverted away from other projects such as the town park.

“Devon remains one of the safest places to live in the country and the perception of crime is often far greater that the reality.”
