WITH Christmas fast approaching Holsworthy Town Council is preparing for snow — fake snow that is, as it decks the halls/streets to make the town the most festive it has ever been.

It wants to make Holsworthy the place to be this year and is asking for locals to help with a new project to fill the town with festive spirit.

The council has proposed that all businesses in the town attach a Christmas tree to the front of their shops, which will then be adorned with a string of coloured lights.

The idea is that on Friday, December 2, when the town will be holding the three-in-one late-night shopping, Christmas market and light switch on event, the main Christmas tree lights will be switched on followed by a daisy chain effect as the smaller, shop front, lights are switched on in unison.

It is hoped that this will be a five year project for the town, with only a one off cost for businesses, in order to ensure that Holsworthy is an attractive, impressive and most importantly, festive area for the community and visitors alike.

This project will coincide with this year’s Santa Run, which is making its debut in Holsworthy, as reported in last week’s Post.

Following the light switch on, a gloriously festive 2k run will start at Holsworthy Square and finish at Stanhope Park, jingling all the way through lights and bubbles before returning to a snow filled square.

Once everyone has returned from the Santa Run there will be music throughout the afternoon and into the evening, as well as the traditional Christmas market.
