MEMBERS and friends of Holsworthy Methodist Church were able to celebrate Christmas with a number of events, despite the ongoing uncertainties of the COVID situation.

A new ‘tradition’ continued for the second year running — the Christmas tree outside the chapel in Bodmin Street, where people could place decorations and tags in memory of a loved one, or simply a seasonal message.

On the Saturday before Christmas, a coffee and cakes morning was held in the hall, following the success of a similar event in September. More than £300 was raised for chapel funds, and thanks were extended to all who supported this in any way, from those who attended, to those who donated money, home-made cakes and other produce, to kitchen helpers and the waiting and door teams.

The following afternoon, superintendent minister, the Rev Simon Leigh, led a well-attended service of lessons and carols in the chapel, decorated beautifully for Christmas. Refreshments and hot drinks followed.

Rev Leigh also led the Christmas morning service.

Organisers sincerely thanked Stacey’s Christmas Tree Farm and Mole Valley Farmers for their kind donations of the indoor and outdoor Christmas trees respectively.
