NEWS that Holsworthy Methodist Church has received a new organ is music to the ears of parishioners.
The three manual instrument, weighing six cwt (centum weight), has replaced the previous organ which has existed since the church was opened in 1910.
The new one was made by Content, a renowned, family owned Dutch organ manufacturer, and was imported from the Netherlands and supplied by Classic Organs of Cornwall at St Austell.
Organist Martyn Squire said their old pipe organ had been there in its present form since 1910 when the church was opened, although its pipes and casing had been in the previous chapel on that site. Sadly its action and bellows control were worn out and some keys no longer worked. It could have stopped working at any time and to repair it would have cost in excess of £50,000.
