AT THE start of a Holsworthy Lions meeting at the White Hart, on October 30, their President, Ted Flaherty, presented cheques to two local organisations.

Jan Withey, the co-ordinator of the Torridge Christmas Project, received a cheque for £100.

She said the money donated would be used the week before Christmas to provide needy families, who had been referred to them, with supermarket food vouchers which they could spend at a nearby store on goodies other than alcohol, tobacco and lottery tickets. Last year, 113 families were helped in this way.
