LEADER of Torridge District Council and county councillor for Holsworthy Rural, Barry Parsons presented young readers from Holsworthy Library with certificates and medals recently. They achieved the award by reading six books during the summer holidays. The national Summer Reading Challenge, 'Circus Stars', co-ordinated by The Reading Agency, is run in 97 per cent of UK public libraries. With 760,000 children aged four to eleven taking part, the Summer Reading Challenge is the biggest national reading initiative. Cllr Parsons commented: "What's really important are the parents/guardians who are the children's greatest teacher and when working together we get the end result. They are very much together and it was brilliant to see. Holsworthy is to commend the library staff who have done a terrific job and are keeping things together." Cllr Parsons has presented certificates to children for the past two years.

He added: "I really enjoy doing it and it is nice to see the children progressing and take great pride in the awards and medals they receive."
