Holsworthy's Old Market Inn has been named North Devon Pub of The Year by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

CAMRA, which celebrated its 100,000th member last year, seeks to recognise pubs that promote and serve the best in real ales.

To win the title, the Old Market Inn beat off challenges from throughout the North Devon Region and it now goes on to try and become the South West's Pub of The Year where it is up against four contenders from Somerset, Cornwall and the rest of Devon.

If successful here, the Old Market Inn could be crowned Britain's Pub of The Year.

"Having taken over the pub three-and-a-half years ago, we are very proud of our achievement," explains landlord, Lee Sycamore. "We have five real ales on at any one time and we normally source these from local breweries such as Clearwater brewery in Torrington and Forge brewery in Hartland as well as larger breweries such as Sharpes and Skinners."

In addition to its five real ales, the Old Market Inn also organises a number of beer festivals throughout the year where up to 15 real ales and ciders are on offer.

"Real ale is a winner with both our regular customers and visitors," explains Lee. "We always stock a range of different ales varying in taste and strength to give our customers a real choice."

As well as real ales, The Old Market Inn also serves real cider which is sourced from Winkleigh Cider Company. With its restaurant serving locally sourced food wherever possible, the Old Market Inn gives a new meaning to locALE.
