Residents of the Holsworthy area have been puzzled for some time as to why they received literature from the then North Cornwall District Council and even more puzzled when a copy of the county's community newspaper 'Your Cornwall' was pushed through their letter boxes recently.

It has been rumoured in the town that the new Cornish unitary council has hatched a cunning plot to annexe Holsworthy. Whereas Holsworthy people, envious of the advantages offered in Cornwall such as the over 60s and disabled persons' bus passes available 24/7 and the funds that flow from Objective One status, civic pride and loyalty to Devon lead them to dismiss such thoughts.

In a statement Chris John, managing editor of the Communications Unit at County Hall, Truro, unaware that his newspaper was being distributed in Devon at Cornish council tax payers' expense, has given his assurance that Cornwall Council "is not trying to annexe Holsworthy, beautiful area though it is!"

He said 'Your Cornwall' was delivered in the area in error, but pointed out that there were a few events in the 'What's On?' section that may be of interest to those wishing to get out and about over the border.
