A 16-YEAR-OLD girl from Holsworthy has been named as St John Ambulance's top cadet in Cornwall and West Devon.

Katrina Hooper, who lives in Clawton, was selected from dozens of other cadets to head the charity's west district that covers Cornwall, the Tamar Valley and Plymouth.

She will represent her fellow cadets aged 11 to 18 at events throughout the district during 2013, and encourage more young people to learn first aid and be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.

To be named as St John Ambulance's District Cadet of the Year, Katrina had to impress the judges in a formal interview as well as making a presentation and demonstrating her first aid ability. She also took part in team and other challenges.
