DEVON County Council is now more than half-way through this year's road surface dressing programme which is part of a wider package of capital highway maintenance work costing £39 million.
Surface dressing is being carried out at around 650 sites across the county. This is one of the preventative maintenance measures which will prevent around 620 miles (1,000 km) of the local highway network from deteriorating, to a point where more costly treatments are needed.
Alongside its preventative schemes, the county council is continuing to carry out its reactive work to repair potholes and safety defects and more than 60,700 potholes have been filled since the start of the year.
