A HOLSWORTHY man recently won the Cornish Stock Car Championship at Westworld Raceway.

Twenty four year old Paul Quick has been racing cars for around three and a half years, following in his grandfather's footsteps who has been racing for about 40 years.

Paul, a mechanic at Tetcott Garage, had to take part in five qualifying heats before making the final on Monday, May 25. He won four of the heats and finished fourth in the other.

Paul beat 12 other cars in the final to be named champion. He said he was very pleased to win the Cornish Championship for the first time, and although it can sometimes gets competitive between him and his grandad, Brian Holmes, who also took part in the event, Paul said his grandad was "really pleased" he won.

It has been a good season for Paul who also recently won the Highfield Motors Perpetual Championships and is currently leading in the Overall Points Championship. He plans to take part in the Summer Series Championship, which starts in July.

Proprietor of Tetcott Garage, Terry Rooke, congratulated Paul on becoming Cornish Champion and Highfield Motors Champion and wished him luck for the rest of the season.
