JANET Watson, the manager of the GSD 2000 charity shop in Holsworthy, and her husband Pete, successfully completed their charity motorbike ride from Lands End to John OGroats and back to Lands End.
The couple started their journey, in aid of the GSD charity which rescues and re-homes German Shepherd dogs, on Friday, June 26. They were given a good send off from the charity shop in the square by all the volunteer staff and Missey the dog.
Janet said:Our first part of the journey was excellent, we managed to avoid the rain and as we arrived at Lands End the sun came out in time for the official photograph in front of the famous signpost which shows different destinations and their distances from Lands End.
From Lands End we returned home to Holsworthy to sleep and from where we could get an early start the next morning.
Heading off from Holsworthy at 5am, Janet and Pete arrived at Blackford,Scotland after being on the road for 11 and a half hours and having covered 522 miles.
Janet continued: A good meal, a nice hot bath to soak in and a comfortable bed was all we needed to put us in good stead for the next day.
On Sunday morning, June 28, after a splendid Scottish breakfast we started off again at 9.30am in damp misty weather, which luckily only lasted for about an hour.
We stopped off atAviemore for a short break and continued our journey to John OGroats, enjoying the wonderful and majestic scenery before arriving at our destination at 4pm.
After an hour in JohnOGroats, the couple travelled some 20 miles to Thurso where they stayed for the night.
The next morning they headed south along the A9 coast road to Inverness. After travelling past Loch Ness and through Fort Augustus and Fort William, Janet and Pete made their way to Oban where they stayed for two nights.
After an overnight stay in Wolverhampton onWednesday, June 30, the couple reached Lands End on Thursday, July 1.
Janet said:One thousand nine hundred and forty five miles later, and a bit worse for wear, we arrived back in Holsworthy not too bad for two wrinkly bikers in their 60s.
We hope to have raised over £800, but a final total will be announced shortly. A big thank you to all those who have donated and made the trip worthwhile, we are, however, still accepting donations in a bid to reach the magic £1,000.
Donations can be made at the GSD 2000 charity shop at 20 The Square, Holsworthy (01409 254279) or by contacting Janet at home on 01409 259100.
