DURING Holsworthy Town Council’s full meeting on May 22 councillors were given the opportunity to choose which outside bodies they wished to join as a town council representative.

Following the recent election, four new councillors — Richard Brown, Toby Johns, Nigel Kenneally and Jill Tallon — joined the ranks and as a result councillors were given the option to switch which outside bodies they wished to represent for the council.

The following councillors were appointed to the various local organisations: Bio Gas Liaison — Cllr Jo Heaven; Bude Canal Trust Partnership — Cllr Mick Stanton; Devon County Council P3 Parish Paths — Cllr John Allen; Holsworthy Area Advisory Committee — Cllrs Allen and Richard Brown; Holsworthy Day Centre — Cllr Jennifer Briggs; Holsworthy Museum — Cllr Brown; Holsworthy Football Club — Cllr Jon Hutchings; Holsworthy Town Council, Hamlets Parish Council, Pyworthy Parish Council Liaison Group — Cllrs Allen and Heaven; Holsworthy Community College — Cllr Toby Johns; St Peter’s Fair Committee — Cllrs Nigel Kenneally and Keith Musker; Holsworthy Library — Cllr Brown.

During discussions councillors spoke on whether a representative for the Torridge North Mid and West Devon Citizens Advice Bureau should be chosen. Town clerk Vanessa Saunders said: “This has always been a bit of an odd one. We have never really heard from them. Do you think we should take it off the list for now and revise whether we have a representative?”

The councillors agreed. Cllr Johns asked: “Are they still active around here?”

Cllr Allen added: “Maybe we could contact them and see if they still want a representative?”

Mrs Saunders said that would be her next step and she would report back to the council at a later date.

Later in the meeting Cllr Briggs provided an update from the recent meeting of the Holsworthy Community Forum she attends. Mrs Saunders suggested the council add it to the list of outside bodies the council has a representative for. Cllr Briggs said the Forum would be greatful, adding: “They have also mentioned to me they would appreciate a visit, whenever convenient, from our mayor — would that be alright?”

Cllr Heaven thanked Cllr Briggs and said she would be most pleased to attend a meeting if Cllr Briggs could provide her with more details closer to the time.
