A YOUNG girl and her school friends have been busy raising funds for Cancer Research UK.
Holly Chamberlain, a Year 6 pupil of Bradworthy Primary Academy, wanted to do something to raise money, after her grandfather had an operation carried out by robot before Christmas.
As Holly realised this operation would not have been possible without research, and because sadly Holly’s best friend’s grandmother and headmaster’s wife were also suffering from cancer, she asked her school if they would allow her to arrange some fundraising events.
Recently, they had a school cake sale at morning break time, and a ‘wear your pyjamas to school’ day.
With the help of her friends and their parents, Holly raised £300.25, which has been sent off to Cancer Research UK.
Her mother, Claire, said: “Holly just thought they really should do something as a school to help the research that goes into all these illnesses.
“She thought everyone has new pyjamas for Christmas — why don’t we go to school in our pyjamas? I’m super proud of her and her friends and thanks to the school for letting them have the freedom to do it.”
