CAMELFORD town councillors have objected to a planning application, requesting improved vehicular access to a holiday park.

The planning application PA17/05390, at Juliots Well Holiday Park on Lanteglos Road, seeks permission for improvements to the existing vehicular access to re-locate the principle entrance.

The application was discussed at the recent meeting of the town council.

With a declaration of interest, Cllr Claire Hewlett was asked to leave the room, as she had formally objected to the application with her husband.

The council heard allegations that trees had already been removed and some work has started on the site.

On Cornwall Council’s planning website, Jon Hewlett submitted an objection, raising concerns about the narrow lanes that traffic would be forced to travel along if the entrance was changed.

Mr Hewlett said the new access would force traffic through ‘one of the narrowest parts of the lane and through a blind double bend’. He added: “We have enough traffic problems through there already with people driving too fast and erratically.”

He also claimed that parts of the bank had been removed.

Having read the relevant documents, Cllr Andy Shaw said: “It looks like they’re trying to make it private for the lodge owners. It doesn’t state how far off the highway it will be.”

Cllr Rob Rotchell, mayor, added: “The stretch of road along there is quite busy.”

Cllr Shaw said: “The existing entry access is fine, and I would oppose this application.”

Cllr Rotchell asked the town clerk, Esther Greig, to note Cllr Shaw’s concerns about the hedges and trees, and said that the council has now ‘commented formally on the two-car space from the highway’.

Cllr Shaw said: “I think the existing access would be just as adequate as what they want.”

Councillors voted in favour of raising an objection to the application, and Cllr Shaw asked for the applicant to reinstate the hedge that has been taken down.

The final decision is expected to be made by Cornwall Council.
