The RICS awards showcase the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the environment.
Forty projects from the South West have been shortlisted across the eight categories of building conservation, commercial property, community benefit, design through innovation, regeneration, residential, tourism and leisure, and infrastructure.
Whalesborough Farm Holiday Cottages has been listed under the tourism and leisure category, and it has been described as ‘a sustainable farm diversification scheme offering twenty luxury cottages and leisure facilities designed to integrate new and existing buildings into their rural setting.’
The other five projects from Cornwall are:
• Hallenbeagle Site Remediation and Infrastructure Project, Redruth — category: infrastructure
• Pendennis Masterplan, Falmouth — category: infrastructure
• Crookedy Park, Saltash — category: residential; Mellalue, Polzeath, Wadebridge — category: residential
• Windmill House, Fowey — category: residential.
A panel of judges will consider the entries and the winner in each category plus the overall project of the year will be announced at a ceremony on May 18 in Bristol.
The overall project of the year title is presented to the scheme which demonstrates overall outstanding best practice and an exemplary commitment to adding value to its local area.
All category winners will go on to compete against other regional winners at the national RICS Awards grand final in October for the chance to be crowned the overall UK winner in their respective category.
Lynn Robinson, RICS regional director UK South, said: “We have received an impressive range of entries this year across both new developments and regeneration projects.
”The standard has been extremely high and our judges — who will visit each scheme over the coming weeks — have a fascinating challenge ahead. We look forward to the regional ceremony in May where we will hear the outcome of the shortlist.”
The presentation ceremony will be at the Bristol Marriott Hotel and hosted by Martin Roberts from BBC One’s ‘Homes under the Hammer’.
