THE public may have noticed an increase in police activity at Holsworthy Football Club on September 15, this was due to a multi-agency road safety enforcement operation.

The police teamed up and worked together with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and HM Customs and Excise to improve the safety of Holsworthy’s roads.

In total 55 vehicles were stopped by officers as part of their operation. These were then subject to a variety of checks, which were carried out on both the vehicle and driver.

There was a total of 17 prohibition notices served on the day for a variety of defects to vehicles. This included six ‘immediate prohibitions’, which resulted in the vehicle being stopped and taken off the road due to a serious defect — the vehicle will remain off the road until the serious defect is corrected.

Two drivers were reported for traveling well in excess of 40mph on North Road. Words of advice for a further seven drivers were issued by officers to those who were caught traveling at speeds well in excess of the 30mph speed limit in place there.

The police also issued substantial fines to two drivers who were found to be using red diesel in non-exempt vehicles.

One of the drivers who was pulled over was reported for driving a vehicle ‘with an insecure and overweight load’ and another for ‘driving a vehicle that was too heavy’ through the weight restricted section of Dobles Lane.

Finally, one driver had their vehicle seized after the driver was reported for operating the vehicle without a license or insurance.

On the Holsworthy Neighbourhood Police Team’s Facebook page they said: “We hope that the operation did not cause too much inconvenience for local residents and appreciate the co-operation we received from the vast majority of the drivers who were involved.”
