THE ANCIENT town of Camelford, steeped in history from its creation in 1258 of a borough by Richard Earl of Cornwall and confirmed by Royal Charter by Henry III a year later, played host for the first time to the Cornish Gorsedd — Gorsedd Kernow — when they celebrated their 84th Gorsedd at Sir James Smith's School on Saturday.
Bards and visitors to the town were greeted with a town decorated with the flags of St Piran and a welcoming banner draped across the main street. With the bad weather experienced this year and memories of the 2011 Gorsedd at Helston, everyone hoped for a fine day — and indeed it was! The day was not only sunny and warm, but there was an atmosphere of warmth and welcome everywhere.
