Event rider Lucy Wiegersma from Highampton finished in sixth place at the Mitsubishi Motors three day Badminton Horse Trials held recently. Lucy was lying in second place on Shabraak, owned by Mark Lean from Penzance, after the first day dressage just 0.9 penalties behind the leader. All eyes were on Lucy and Shabraak as they entered the arena to start the cross country section. Shabraak was a little lively to start and gave Lucy a strong ride. But they kept it together and gained a clear round but came home 2.4 seconds outside the optimum time which gave her penalties but put her in to the lead. The only person who could possibly beat her was Oliver Townend on Flint Curtis. Oli went round clear and came home within the time narrowly snatching the lead from Lucy. Sadly it all went wrong on the final day in the show jumping ring when Shabraak knocked the middle element of the combination and then had the last three down. Dropping them to sixth place. However still a great result for the local rider, who was the top British rider at the event last year. Oliver Townend won on flint Curtis followed by William Fox-Pitt on Idalgo.
