WITH a strong wind at their backs North Petherwin were desperate to gain a half time advantage as they knew the conditions would play a major part in the proceedings.
Petherwin attacked well and it was the heroics of their former 'keeper Kevin Gerry who kept the scores level. Late in the half the lead was found when top scorer Mikey Houghton 'pounced like a badger' to force home before a cracking strike from Dave Sharpe which gave the home side a two goal advantage at the break.
The second half saw a few nervous moments with free kicks on the edge of the box for Southgate but the storm passed and Sharpe bettered his earlier effort from farther out and on his wrong foot.
Mentions for the visitors must go to Andy Penn and Kenny Channing who battled well, but it was in vain for Petherwin's Adam Cripps, Dan Warring and Joe Reeve to name a few were in top form and the game was rounded off with Joe's calm finish.
